Topic: South Asian Connections – Cultural Context in Storytelling

Speaker: Peter Chand
In this informal lecture, British Punjabi Storyteller Peter Chand will be discussing some of the processes and techniques he has employed within his work. Besides collecting stories in India, and translating them into English from Punjabi and Hindi, he has also recently been commissioned to create a piece of work based on South Asian variations of well-known Grimm Stories. Peter will be sharing some of his research techniques and also focusing on the cultural context of these Indian stories, and highlighting what they reveal from a particular cultural viewpoint.

Speaker - Dr. Nick Owen, Writer, Teacher, Academic Researcher and Director of Aspire Trust, will talk about assessment and dissemination of findings through alternative reporting. Whether it’s looking at storytelling, community attitudes, memories, oral history or arts-education work (residencies, student’s creativity, etc.), the use of arts as a reporting/recording tool (e.g., opera to present reports of an oral history of a school community, twittering events, etc.)

It will be held at Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff, but all bookings will be administered by us at the Centre.
